I live in Edinburgh I am married, with a grown-up family.
I have a Master of Philosophy, a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (with distinction). I also have a postgraduate Certificate in Education (with distinction), and a Certificate in Counselling Supervision.
My professional background is in education and training. For many years I headed a counselling staff team in a large Kent college, and worked as a tutor for the Central School of Counselling and Therapy.
I have extensive experience of seeing clients in a variety of settings including primary care, education and private practice. I have worked with a range of issues including: Abuse, Adoption, Anger Management, Anxiety,Aspergers, Bereavement, Cancer, Cultural Issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Gender Issues, Phobias, Relationships, Sexuality, Stress Management.
I am committed to anti-discriminatory practice and welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures and sexualities. I have worked with sexual minority clients for over 17 years. Living with stigma and oppression can create intense pressures and people who have diverse gender and sexual identities can benefit from emotional and psychological support to help them deal with the prejudice they experience from someone who has some understanding of the social context in which they are living their lives. I have experience of counselling lesbian, gay, bisexual men and women, transvestites and the transgender community. I am a member of Pink Therapy.
My approach has evolved from my training, my work as a counsellor trainer and my extensive work with individuals and counselling organisations since 1996. It has also been shaped by life experience and my own experience of therapy.
